Story: Podcast ad
When I listen to podcast programs, This Week in Startups, Andrew Yang, etc, on YouTube, I often hear the word, VPN. It is something related to security, but I did not listen carefully. Some people don’t want internet providers to be able to see what you searched for or where you visited. I understand that.
VPN = virtual private network – a service that helps you stay private online. A VPN establishes a secure, encrypted connection between your computer and the internet, providing a private tunnel for your data and communications while you use public networks. – Avast
I am using Airbnb and I thought is here safe? I do use incognito mode, but I was not sure. Therefore, I searched for a VPN and how it works.
How a VPN Works

General process
Home(device/modem) → ISP(keep log/DPN lookup) → Server → ISP → Home(device/modem)
VPN
Home(device/modem) *VPN works at this point → ISP → VPN(no log) → Server → VPN → ISP → Home(device/modem)
This is not simple.
5 Best Free VPN & why use one

He explains some VPN. I don’t need many choices. I installed what he recommends.
Conclusion: Installed
I installed ProtonVPN. The activated display is above. The icon shows up on the top nav and dock. I don’t know I do activate ProtonVPN each time. I personally don’t know how many times ISP checked my internet activity before. The majority of people don’t know what happens when we access the internet. We spend daily life without any event which police searches for. If investigator searches for an individual, we won’t be able to hide anything about internet activity, I feel.
Whether you take action or not, VPN is good to know. Let’s protect our privacy ourselves.
