Story: Transformation of design
User experience design is the process of enhancing user satisfaction with a product by improving the usability, accessibility, and pleasure provided in the interaction with the product.
Wikipedia: User Experience Design
When I studied graphic design, early 2000, I’d never heard User Experience Design (UX). I think UX (as the term) didn’t exist at that time. Even in 2012, when I quit a job in Tokyo (Japan), I didn’t know about it. I heard User Experience Design on YouTube channel, @TheFutur, in 2014 for the first time.
I watched a lot of videos on YouTube. I also took a UX course at @BrainStation. Now I understand what UX is. However, I’m a little stuck at this point. How can I charge more as UX designer? This will be written on the other blog.

A great example of a kick start project within 8 minutes. Jose Caballer left at @TheFutur currently, but he is still good friend with Chris Do. At first, Jose gathered opinions about the purpose of meeting from all stakeholders. Then, set up the project goal very quickly. A website is simply a customer contact tool, he said. I think so, too. He totally facilitates and took an initiative at this meeting. Great.
@TheFutur provides useful contents to the early-stage designer how to be a designer/entrepreneur. We can donate them for their contribution, US$5 per month. Please think about it after you achieved a goal.

No.1 – 3 are already finished on the video. This process helps you aligning the consciousness, problem, goal, of stakeholders. Then, Jose checked the competitor’s website. Jose is always taking care of the user, who is looking at this website. UX, in other words, is told a user-centered design.
Refine: User experience design
UX process (customized for my process):
1. Define target audience, problem and goals
2. Research (client/competitor/industry) – 5 hours
3. Brand Attributes – 4 hours
4. Persona – 4 hous/1 person
5. Move board – 1 day
6. Site map (AI: Information architecture) – 3 hours
7. Wireframe (Sketch APP) – 3 hours
8. Prototype (Sketch APP) – 5 hours
9. UI (User interface) – 5 hours
10. Development (WordPress, Webflow) – 5 days
*Included modification.
If I clearly define No. 1 – 3 with a client, my work has 65% done. I usually don’t stuck in the process. Ideally, I would like to finish the 1 project in 2 weeks. However, it depends on how quick client response to me.
Learn an industry needs
I feel in the past, graphic designer considered some of a user experience design even the word, UX, wasn’t exist. I don’t say myself, I’m a UX designer. Commonly people reply to me, what is UX design? It’s jargon. So, I don’t have to use it to ordinary people at a meetup. I can show it during a conversation or a meeting with a client.
I’m also thinking about a job title, graphic designer. People usually don’t get clearly what I’m doing. If people are in the same industry, they ask me what the specialty is. I like branding, but I don’t feel I’m engaging with people at a meetup. Hence, I recently say just a web designer. Regardless of industry, every business needs a website. In 2019, a website still becomes a strong social proof as well as social media, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
