Story: Working style 2020
On March 16th, COVID-19’s impact is spreading in North America every day. Many public areas are considering shutting down. Today, VPL(Vancouver Public Library) Closed at 1:30 PM. I personally feel that people are too overreacted, but this is what it is. In current circumstances, everyone feels uncomfortable. This clicked me to think about the value of the workspace.
In 2020, technically we can work wherever we want as a freelance. For instance, you can integrate work and travel. Internet and SaaS make it possible.
I work at home, cafe, share office and library. I tried to nomad a few times. I personally could not find much value on the nomad. It was less productivity and efficiency. On top of that, I could not find meaningful reasons.
I like to work. I like to collaborate with others. I would like to share the delight and achievement with a team. I would like to contribute to the company and the local society. Basically, I need human interaction directly rather than online communication.
In March 2020, some of the giant company workers are working at home. Because of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19). It gave me the chance to think about the value of the workspace.

I read the article above. The workplace is a stage for the corporate worker. To improve attitude through the work, we need a workplace.

APPLE PARK – The Spaceship

It looks like an absolutely spaceship. The narration sometimes says Apple campus. I like the sound, campus. It reminds me of the university. After all, we are a long-life learner. We spend 1/3 of life at work. Let’s say the campus rather than the workplace.
Steve Jobs bought an asset from Hewlett-Packard. He had a grand plan for it. After he passed away, Apple Park has opened. What a story.
The Town That Facebook Built

It is not workplace anymore. It’s town. It sounds like a model city and I like the concept. Work and life integrate at the town.
In designing the new work environment, Facebook focused on how employee wellbeing could improve creative thinking, drive innovation and increase productivity.
Google interns’ first week

Google is also using the campus. The employees says it’s like a playground as well as an academic atmosphere.
– Don’t be afraid to ask, don’t be afraid to fail and success.
– You don’t have to know everything, but you have to willing to learn.
Everyone use Google products everyday. Google Search is the one of it. SaaS makes us easier to start a business. There are many oppotunities around us. I have to keep looking.

I didn’t feel that Microsoft products are cool & I want to have it in the past. It was not unique, everyone use it. It’s for a traditional corporate workers. In addition, I have to use Adobe software. Therefore, I’ve start to use Apple.
Since Satya Nadella has became a CEO, a brand image is getting better. Nowadays, the device actually doesn’t matter anymore. It’s a part of the process, what you use. To be honest, Microsoft or Samsung is updated more innovative products than Apple in 2020.
The video shows AR. If I could use a window out of the screen, that’s interesting.

I saw the head office by chance when I visited San Jose. I could easy to recognize from the road. The company takes care of employees. They feel loyalty to the company. They work hard and contribute to the company. Good reputation from employees leads new talents. Good synergy.
Folding phone, the first full-screen phone without a notch, Samsung shows us quite innovative products often. To be honest, Samsung looks better than the iPhone when I compare the device at the store. I think many people know about it. Even so, people like Apple. It’s the power of the brand.
According to StatCounter, the share of the OS are below.
Android 73.3%
iOS 25.89%
I thought there is more gap between the two of them. Apple gradually increases the share. This is global data. 1% is quite huge.

Conclusion: Work with people = life
I watched the head office of global companies. Company loyalty must be increased. These work environments are not automatically given. The employee has to contribute company. In the end, all factors make a next innovation.
In Japan, I don’t think many company has a public space. Global company in the United States are actually building a community. It’s different and Japan and should learn about it.
