Story: You may not have the privileges to open the app, the app may be damaged, or it may not be installed.
I wrote below on March 10th, 2021.
I faced a horrible situation this morning. Early morning, I could use MacBook Pro at home. I could watch YouTube.
When I got to the office, I tried to check an email and reply, but I could not type the Japanese language. I restarted the MacBook Pro. Then, All folder icons on the desktop disappeared, only folder names I could see. I tried to launch APP, but I got an error.
You may not have the privileges to open the app, the app may be damaged, or it may not be installed.
All APP, Google Chrome, Mail, Calendar, everything could not launch. I clicked System setting, but even the window did not open. It’s getting worse when I restart again. In the end, all dock icons displayed question marks, ?. I searched for a solution on YouTube by iPhone, but almost all ideas did not work. Because I could not open any windows included system settings, terminal etc.
I contacted Apple Support. They said try safe mode. It did not work either. I need to reinstall from the latest backup. It took 3 hours. I lost the data between February 19 to March 10. Now, I can use it, but I don’t know it happens in the future.
I decided to buy backup MacBook Air. I cannot endure this situation.

How to take a backup?
If you subscribe to a cloud storage service, it’s very easy to solve the issue. I understand how convenient it is. I am using Adobe XD and the data is in the cloud automatically. Basically, I don’t need to worry about a clash. The backup is saved frequently.
However, I don’t want to pay for any subscription services. Once I start to use it (especially data cloud service), I have to pay forever until I pass away or I have to delete all the data. Currently, I keep data on an external hard drive, 1TB costs around $80.
I would like to search for the best way to save the data in 2021 as a freelance web/graphic designer.

He recommends iCloud. If it’s based on safety reasons, cloud storage service is okay. I sometimes travel. Cloud is convenient for nomads workers(I am not). I don’t want to pay for any subscription services. Subscription means I have to pay until die. Once I storage the all files, how can I cancel it?

Free cloud storage service
I believe that you know some free cloud storage services available.
iCloud
Google Drive
Dropbox
One Drive
AWS
External HDD(Products)
I have both external HD(2TB), the same one or the previous one. I have faced the connecter issue. I cannot connect a cable to HD easily, something misfits. So, I cannot pull off the cable. Both are working as HD. We want to get a large storage capacity as much as possible, but 2TB is safe for some accidents.
Conclusion: How to be at ease
I am preparing to travel. It’s domestic and only 2 weeks. I would like to delete a recently completed project from MacBook Pro before the travel. Clients rarely ask me, could you send me the file? This worry does not necessarily if I use a clouds service. In my current circumstances, utilizing Google Drive for free ver is the best solution. So, I am going to organize it in a month.
