Story: Should be hobby, not duty
When I visit a bookstore, I consume 1 hour easily. If I could sit with coffee at a bookstore, I can spend 2-4 hours. Because I like to look at a magazine, layout, photograph and typography. Not only design magazine, but also I can enjoy many categories, fashion, food, architecture and travel. This is not for work for me. Just a hobby. Consequently, it helps my work after all.
As designer, there is no border between work and private. I can apply any experience to design process directly or indirectly. That’s why I like this work.

Inc. is an American weekly magazine which publishes about small businesses and startups. Significantly amazing photos. The magazine sometimes reminds me how beautiful this world. Sometimes teaches me how arduous the law of the jungle. After all, it will be a good lesson.

Dwell
Dwell is a design and technology brand. It was launched with a magazine in September 2000 to bridge the gap between design professionals and enthusiasts by CEO Lara Hedberg Deam with architecture and design critic Karrie Jacobs as its Editor-in-Chief. In August 2002 Jacobs left the magazine and was replaced by Senior Editor Allison Arieff. After Arieff, Sam Grawe held the position from 2006 – 2011, followed by Amanda Dameron from 2011 – 2017. – Wikipedia
When I was in Japan, I moved cities a lot. Ehime, Takamatsu, Kyoto, Yokohama and Tokyo. I learned what I like. Each time, I created comfortable room with favolite furnitures. Some of them are still in my hometown.
I lived studio, one room with kitchin and bath. I’ve never share the room with someone. It’s quite unusual in Japan. For your information, the rent was CAN$650 in Kyoto, CAN$860 in Tokyo. (Converted in May 14th, 2019)
Recently, local people knows Konmari (Marie Kondo). Her method, story cleaning, has something global standard. I believe no one prefer messy. That’s why her book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up (2011) , was so popular in the world. The room shows your personality regardless of the size. That’s interesting.

Azure
Azure is a media brand covering architecture and design published in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Azure is described as “an indispensable resource for architects, designers and the design-savvy public” on its website. It was founded in 1985 by Nelda Rodger and Sergio Sgaramella. In 2000, it won the Canadian National Magazine Awards’ Magazine of the Year. In 2011, the magazine launched the AZ Awards. In February 2013, deputy editor Catherine Osborne was named the magazine’s editor in chief, with founding editor Nelda Rodger remaining as editorial director for Azure Publishing. – Wikipedia
When I visited Interior Design Show in Vancouver, Azure was a sponsor. Recently, we can see so many unique architectures on Pinterest. It makes me excited. I especially like to see Westbank’s work. Westbank collaborates with well-known architects/studios, Kengo Kuma, Bing Thom, Henriquez Partners Architects, Bjarke Ingels Group, etc.
The project takes so long, at least 5 years. Many people work for a project, such as city, archtect, developer and constructer. Huge budgets. Require to proceed sensitively. That’s why people expect to complete. I think archtecture is a great position for the future. It is not easy to replace to others. Even the latest technology cannot make it. It requires many professional in the process.
Afar
Afar is a publication focused on experiential travel. The company also operates a non-profit foundation providing scholarships for educational journeys for students. The magazine was launched in 2009 by Greg Sullivan and Joseph Diaz after a six-week trip to India. – Wikipedia
A designer should travel in the world. A designer should meet and interact with people. A designer should get feeling at the place. Every experience will be the material of future work.
Afar shows travel feeling by typography. Great pictures and layout. Afar attracts me to go travel. Well done!
Magazine in the future
The Internet tells us the so many story quickly. How does magazine make synergy with it? If a focus on online media, costs may be saved a lot. Artificial Intelligence analysis leader’s tastes and provide appropriate contents. I like to visit a bookstore, browse a magazine, but I quite worry about publishing future.
