What is your ingredient? We, as human, there are 2 layers, physical and mental. We eat food every day. It keeps our physical health mostly. However, we have to feed for mental. How?
I consciously try to touch good information every day. This is the best list of magazines. Thanks to the internet, you can reach those information wherever you are.
In March 2019, @apple announced Apple News +, magazine subscription service. I personally like to look at a magazine, layout, typography, photography and topics. Therefore, I would like to introduce my book list by mockup.
This is what I was made.
Monocle
I found Monocle magazine when I was in Tokyo, Japan. The director, Tyler Brûlé, talked on the radio show. Of course, it was English and I could not understand at that time, but I understand the quality of the magazine, article, layout, illustration and photo. I can find it in Canada as well. I’m glad that!

Forbes
Founded Forbes magazine on September 15, 1917, by B. C. Forbes who was a financial journalist. The motto of Forbes magazine is “The Capitalist Tool”. The iconic business magazine in the world. It’s tough for me to understand every article, but I have to get used to the number(and balance sheet) of business. Forbes is also quite well designed as a magazine, to be honest.
As a freelance, you may weak at math, but you have to study basic accounting. Otherwise, you cannot be a branding strategist. It means you cannot critical discussion with a decision maker. Let’s read a balance sheet!
Fast Company
Fast Company was launched in November 1995. In my image, Fast Company focuses on technology, business, and design. These themes are suitable for me. Fast Company picks up top runners, facebook/apple/Amazon, to young startup for the cover image.
Magazine layout is attractive. Easy to read. It means good organizing information and appropriate white space. Native English magazines are everything challenging for me… An illustration is great. I sometimes follow illustrator on Instagram. Overall, Nice magazine!

Harvard Business Review began in 1922 as a magazine for Harvard Business School. HBR’s articles cover a wide range of topics that are relevant to various industries, management functions, and geographic locations. These focus on areas including leadership, organizational change, negotiation, strategy, operations, marketing, finance, and managing people.
Everyone roughly knows which universities are the highest wisdom in the world. I’m an out of the track of intelligence. However, I would like to keep my eye on the latest trend in the world. It’s normally written in English. Therefore, I look at the Harvard Business Review!

MIT Technology Review is a magazine wholly owned by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, but editorially independent of the university. It was founded in 1899 as The Technology Review and was re-launched without “The” in its name on April 23, 1998, under then publisher R. Bruce Journey.
The mission of MIT Technology Review is to bring about better-informed and more conscious decisions about technology through authoritative, influential, and trustworthy journalism.
We are currently a 4th industrial revolution. Technology has changed our life rapidly. Today, someone may be already creating the next revolution somewhere in the world. It may you. Interesting period now. Therefore, I look at MIT Technology Review!

As a designer, life is design. This is a benefit of design work. There is no border work and private. The design comes from your experience, what you see, what you learn.
At first, you should know the rules and standard. After that, you will realize how these magazines are great. You don’t always have to think about design but something wrong in the layout if you feel it’s not easy to read. Please prepare to explain the reason why.
