Story: Tendency

I got some inquiries for developing an invest company’s website. I recently listen to the podcast, This Week in Startups. So, I had a curiosity about how an investor thinks. This is quite by chance.

The websites which I picked up below are very famous in Silicon Valley and NYC + extra. I heard the company name on Bloomberg Technology and Podcasts. Many of them successfully invested in the very consumer-centric product/service which we can see every day in our life. This is totally out of my world. However, I can find the trend, tendencies and styles from them.

A well-known investment firm in Silicon Varry. Airbnb, DoorDash, Figma, WhatsApp, Square, Stripe, Instagram, etc. The website does not say many numbers. The portfolio/results tell the story. Great foreseeability.

So many well-known companies Accel invested in, such as Hootsuite, DJI, hopin, InVision, miro, Away, etc. This class of investment company does not speak a lot on the website. I don’t think this is an industry standard and I can apply it to other investment companies.

By the way, I have Away suitcase even though I have terrible shipping experience with them. The product is good.

As the website mentions, kleiner Perkins is making history. The companies which were invested are actually changing the world. References from the founders are trustworthy enough. This website structure works for only the famous company or founder.

Facebook, Asona and oculus. I can see Space X in the portfolio. One of the partners, Peter Thiel. I can see the connection. The font is not so unique, Proxima-Nova, but overall graphic design and website are very sharp.

This website more looks like a website. A portfolio shows well-known companies, but Index Ventures uses message and philosophy as well. This is a more universal usage for a website.

I like the shape logo. Display the figures, 300 active portfolio companies, $8B+ under management, 48 IPOs, 160+ mergers and acquisitions. This is one of universal section usage. I am not fun about graphic elements, but I understand that.

I heard the name, Greylock Partners, when Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn, spoke at Bloomberg Technology or talked with David Rubenstein. Well-organized website. I can see the standard of the contents through these websites, founder’s references/story, portfolio, team, perspective/blog, etc. I think this scale of investment firm does not have an issue that small companies face.

Interestingly, no design. I heard Tiger Global on YouTube. They are very famous in the investment industry and well reputation. In this case, the company does not have to do anything. Good reputation leads a new opportunity naturally.

Simple logo, but it works. Consistent execution from brand identity to the website. According to Google, it’s a global company and too good for the startup company. Please develop an MVP website first.

The number, 500, uses S&P 500. I think it is an interesting approach. I thought the website is developed by Webflow, but this is custom programming work. We can emulate it by Webflow. Investing in Canva is a big win for 500 Global.

Conclusion: Ready to work for investor’s website

I felt the investment website focus on people, portfolio or philosophy. Especially talented people may be an asset. Many people are showing the face.

If you learn UX design, you may know how to approach the project. As I said, I receive inquiries from a small firm or person in the investment industry. I am going to use the knowledge which I learned on the real project.
