Story: Nothing is original

I believe design is not cleated 0 to 1. When a designer tried to do design, the expression comes from the knowledge and past experience in their life. That’s why I like this job. Because we don’t have to separate life and design. Design is life.

I’m not familiar English search on Google when I was in Japan. Since 2012, I usually search on Google by English. I could find much information which I didn’t know. These great graphic designers as well. When I looked at these great jobs, I was glad to see that. Very bold, strong graphics. I don’t know when I can apply these study, but someday, I may use them unconsciously. 

Michael Bierut / Pentagram

Michael Bierut is a graphic designer, design critic, and educator who designed the logo for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. Bierut was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He studied graphic design at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. – Wikipedia

Quite interesting episode why he became a graphic designer. CLARK logo, L lifts A. I believe we are living on destiny somehow. He is a truly keen design sense. How many children can notice this tiny idea and design above? I am paying attention to his work.

Paul Rand

Paul Rand was an American art director and graphic designer, best known for his corporate logo designs, including the logos for IBM, UPS, Enron, Morningstar, Inc., Westinghouse, ABC, and NeXT. He was one of the first American commercial artists to embrace and practice the Swiss Style of graphic design. – Wikipedia

When I was watching about Steve Jobs on YouTube, Paul Land was mentioned. He created NEXT logo. Through the video, he is intelligence graphic designer, sound professor. Paul Land might establish a graphic designer position in society based on deep knowledge and design attitude.

Saul Bass

Saul Bass was an American graphic designer and Academy Award-winning filmmaker, best known for his design of motion-picture title sequences, film posters, and corporate logos. – Wikipedia

When I started my career, this is my image of the graphic design, bold graphics, vivid color and typography by hand. Recently, the designer uses Mac and Adobe software. We cannot make this kind of graphic design easily. Advertising is not art., but a graphic designer can show their graphic design principle on it. Deep conversation?

Rob Janoff

Rob Janoff is an American graphic designer of corporate logos and identities, printed advertisements and television commercials. He is known for his creation of the Apple logo. – Wikipedia

I cannot estimate the value of the Apple logo which was created by Rob Janoff. Every Apple product has this Apple logo. The logo is sophisticated, logical, solid, and sharp as same as product.

We can see FedEx logo every day. The arrow hides between E and x. Appropriate graphics message for logistics business. I checked Twitter page of Alsco. Alsco uses A for icon and it works. Excellent.

Conclusion: Graphic makes history

I remembered I liked to study world history when I was students. I’m enjoying serching to historical graphic designers on Google. I knew some of graphic design, but i didn’t know who made them.

Behind our sociaty, graphic design exists everywhere. There are tons of masterpiece and garbage. Let’s recognizing them as graphic designer. Then, create masterpiece in our work!
