Overview
In March 2018, I received contact from the owner of Tiger Ring Construction. He is a master carpenter and hoping to work with local customers. I liked his motive. I understand the value of master carpenter in Japan. Please imagine, such as a leather artisan in Italy, sommelier at a France, or ceramic artist in China.
Tiger Ring Construction has a basic website which was created by an employee made by Wix.com. There was no value proposition, content strategy. In addition, there are 2 languages on the same page. The website was not represented their voices at all. However, I was not sure whether I should rebuild a website from scratch or not at that time.
Because we can see much successful business in which they are using early 2000’s websites, before WordPress. I had not had a clear vision. So, I started marketing research.

Challenge
Situation
– Google did not show Tiger Ring Construction on Google Maps.
– Created website by an employee, by Wix and it was low engage rates.
Target
– The middle-high class house/condominium holder.
– Construction firm which is working for a city project.
Purpose
– The maximize visibility on Google search.
– To engaging local customers.
Goal
– Receive inquiry constantly.
– Hire 10 people in 5 years. (my aim)
Google Ads
One reason why I started Google Ads rather than a renewal website was that I didn’t see any great design website for contractor/renovation company on 1st page on google. I thought if a customer finds Tiger Ring Construction somehow, a target audience may contact them.
I’ve used Google Ads in 6 months, but I couldn’t leave good results. According to Google My Business, the result of each numbers are below.
Mid-April to End of September
View 592/mo → 1.2k/mo
Search 424/mo → 1.2k/mo
Activity 21/mo → 433/mo
The increasing these numbers is not a goal at all. Design(digital marketing) should lead new customers. This is the ultimate goal and the reason why I am hired with a client. I could not lead to new clients in 6 months. I have to reflect on it.
I have to figure out why target audience did not contact to Tiger Ring Construction. I cannot remove the reason of website. Therefore, I suggested updating the website. I wanted to apply a value proposition and organic keywords on the website. I did not consider to buy a backlink. It’s over the budgets.
The current website was created by Wix.com. He asked me to create a website on the same platform. I knew that it is the cheapest option for the client, but it will consume my time more than WordPress. And the results would not be the best which I can do. I could not compromise. I pursuade the client and rebuild a website by WordPress.
Process
I created logomark for a long time ago. I picked up suitable typeface, Copperplate. It has an atmosphere of dignity and tradition behind a bold. The colour represents the attitude of the work. Through the website, I want a target audience to feel a quality of Tiger Ring Construction. I also would like to amplify the value of Japanese master carpentry.
Result
I delivered the website in November 2019. I could beyond the client’s expectations. However, my goal is not to create a website. I have to reach a target audience, increase an inquiry through this website. Therefore, the project is still ongoing.
Generally speaking, everyone can make a website nowadays, but I don’t need to care about people who make a website by own anymore. Please save money and spend time.
My work is not making a website. To reach a target audience and generate new customers for clients through UX design with digital marketing and SEO knowledge. Website is a just tool for it. I could enhance my confidence.
