Japadog
Japanese Style Hotdog
Overview
JAPADOG is a well-known street food stand and restaurant chain located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada(other location at the Santa Monica Pier in California.) The chain, owned by Noriaki Tamura, specializes in novelty hot dogs that include Japanese-style variants such as okonomiyaki, yakisoba, teriyaki, and tonkatsu.
JAPADOG’s vision is quite impressive. Their five year plan is to expand business and to own 100 food carts and locations around the world. Their ambition is the reason I am in Canada and continue to work on many projects with them. I believe that it is very important for the designer to share its client’s vision. Here, the goal is to improve the visibility of the brand in such a way as to increase followers. Within these boundaries, I have been pushing my creativity to the next level in order to go beyond expectations. This ongoing professional relationship is a great responsibility, but I am truly grateful for this meaningful experience.
Challenge
JAPADOG creates Japanese style hotdogs. That is unique enough. They are featured a lot of media. However, the only hotdogs stood out. No one talks about restaurants, food carts, and the experience.
– Increase engagement on social media, especially Instagram and Facebook, turn to JAPADOG advertising.
– Provide great customer experience. For that, Promote mission penetration.
Typography
I checked a current logo. Just typing gothic font, no space adjustment. I thought that logo would be sans-serif as same as current, but it should be bolder than gothic. I created a custom font, JAPADOG Bold.
Customer Experience
President made all graphics since he has started JAPADOG. It might be an inevitable situation if it is a start-up and no budgets. They have a mission as a company, “Delivering dreams, happiness & excitement to the world through hotdogs”. I had no idea how many employees and customer knew it.
I did not get many impressions when I visited the restaurant. Food is nice and tasty. As a designer, as a consumer, I felt something I can change. I wanted to provide a good customer experience through the graphic design. I took food pictures with a local photographer and created graphics.
Result
One of a result, poutines sold 3 times more than before. Age-ice got a good reaction from a customer. You can find the Japadog logo and graphic on social media feed. It is going to be lively day by day.
I’m expanding my service to web design, marketing, SEO and APP. I would like to contribute to a client’s business more and more. I design all with local creators, photographer, illustrator, and programmer. Let’s it makes happen.
