Story: Between free and paid
June 2022, I am using Slack with BtoB / BtoC clients. It is a well-known SaaS that was bought by Salesforce (Salesforce completes acquisition of Slack). It is quite user-friendly. I did not learn how to use Slack. Just dived into it a few years ago.
I was not sure about the borderline between paid and free. I have never paid for it before. Yesterday, I could not see one thread which uses with a client, collaborating with a couple of people, even though I can still contact with CEO directly. The display mentions that I need to update the plan. It does not happen with BtoB clients. I don’t know whether they paid for inviting me or not.
To be clear, I am okay paying for Slack monthly bases, but I wanted to know the reason.
YouTube by Slack
The sound of receiving a message makes me react. I may need a customize/personalize the Slack dashboard. A new way to work. I think so. Slack makes work more casual. I read an article that some public workplaces in japan adopt Slack. That was a little surprised me. I asked a BtoB client who uses email mainly. It was rejected. I don’t mind that.

Email is okay though I cannot say it is a fun experience. I installed the Slack APP on my iPhone. Some inactive workplaces influence it and show me the notification. I need to find how to turn it off without sign out.

App integration for cloud drive is a great idea. I still don’t know how I can automatically organize it when I receive a file from someone.
Conclusion: Be invited as a guest
In the conclusion, a client invited me to the project as a guest. I don’t think many users don’t need to think about membership or side nav structure on Slack. I have a company name account as well as a personal name account even though both accounts are for work/collaboration. I am still not clear when I need to be a pro member.
– One-on-one communication does not need a paid account
– If I need to communicate with a team member, not a project manager, maybe I need a pro account.
– Project manager may pay the fee for adding the new members?
– What should I do for the BtoB client?
– If I use Slack for the project every day, I don’t mind being a pro member on monthly bases. I can cover the cost.
– If it’s once a week, I need to think about it.
I don’t understand the channel structure. Therefore, I am not clear above. How to use Slack is not much problem. I need to understand how it works.
