Story: Why dare focus on LinkedIn now?

There are many social media platforms, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, WeChat, TikTok etc. People surround me sounds they use Facebook every single day. I use FB for digital marketing for the client. I am not active personally. I cannot find a reason why I need to share where I am, what I did, what I ate etc.

I prefer LinkedIn a lot. As an immigrant, I have to display who I am, what I do to local people, mostly HR. The LinkedIn profile shows my background. I didn’t graduate top college, I didn’t work at a global company. The majority of people would be the same situation. How can we adapt to the United States and Canada?

At first, I admit it. Then, I adapt my skills to the market and constantly improve it.

Problem: LinkedIn is a trend of social media, but I don’t know much about LinkedIn
Goal: Display who I am, update frequently, develop social proof, meet industry demand

What is LinkedIn?

LinkedIn Previous CEO Jeff Weiner

©Stanford Graduate School of Business

Jeffrey “Jeff” Weiner is an American businessman. He was the chief executive officer of LinkedIn, a business-related social networking website. He started with LinkedIn on December 15, 2008, as Interim President. Weiner played an instrumental role in LinkedIn’s acquisition by Microsoft for $26 billion in June 2016. – Wikipedia

In June 2020, I watched this video. YouTube recommended me. I was impressed the way he speaks, word choice. You will recognize it in the first 15 minutes.

“You have to strike a very delicate balance when you expressing personal belief vs express belief as a CEO.”

“You recognize that not every employee within your organization may agree with you. …We should be respectful of those disagreements. We want to create an environment where people feel like they belong as long as that’s consistent with our culture and values.”

I liked this sentence. An employee can think/express whatever they believe. They can disagree with CEO as long as they respect company culture and values. Very deep meaning.

Difference between empathy and compassion.

Conclusion: Building a social proof

People spend time on social media every day. Are there any benefits? According to the study, many people feel social isolation in this society, even though people can connect to others the easiest in human history.

I have several accounts, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest etc. Many people enjoy Facebook, but I am not. I do not active on Facebook. I don’t need to know where my friend is, what they eat etc.

I have started to restructure the LinkedIn account in July 2020. I learned what I need to do during writing a blog. I am going to improve it continually. Let’s execution!

P.S. If you have a LinkedIn account, please send me an invitation. I openly accept it if your message personalized. 🙂
