Story: Everything commercial
In the 1990s, I often watched TV. The commercial showed up during the TV programs, normally 15 seconds each. Nowadays, I don’t have a chance to watch it. Because I don’t have a TV itself. Millennials are more often, I believe. Instead of that, I see the marketing staff on YouTube. Normally, YouTuber tailing something, but I don’t listen.
Everything has gradually become a video commercial on the internet and social media, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest. According to the results provided from social media companies, video increases engagement than image. This movement will be continued in the next 5 years. So, we, graphic designer, have to adapt to these circumstances.
We have to know how to make a video, how to edit video. We are not solving a visual problem anymore. We have to solve a client’s problem. We have to provide more effective solutions. That’s why we need to know it.
iMovie
I believe many of designers are Apple user(misunderstand?). I use iMovie for creating a video. It’s simple, powerful and easy to export. If you need short video for social media ads, iMovie is enough. Apple don’t announce for it, but update often. Userbility is improving. Why don’t you use this free software?
Keynote
You may know keynote which is often used for presentation slides. I use keynote for slide image video. We often doesn’t have video materials. That’s why keynote works. Drag and drop, add sounds, template transition each images. You can simply play around.

Nowadays, our job area is expanding. Graphic designer cannot only focus on print, but also has to design for web, photography, digital marketing, video, programing, APP development etc. There are many free resource on internet. We at least know them and maximize an impact for a client. You may feel overwhelmed. However, most of softwares was created with UX. It means user friendly. You can learn quickly and apply to current project at the same time. Don’t worry. Let’s push ourselves hard.
