Story: Client’s expectation
As you search and see on the internet or Google Maps, web design services are everywhere. I can imagine that if I were a client, it’s very difficult to pick 1 agency or person. I will look for a reference from someone who is running a business in my network.
Somehow a client finds my service on the internet. S/he checks the portfolio, reviews, about, etc. S/he chooses me as one of the shortlists and keeps searching. S/he sent an email to some people and agencies for an estimate. Then, s/he decide to work with me. I really care about what a client says at a briefing. I do not design intuitively. I visualize what a client says for plan 1 and what I think as plan 2(sometimes, it’s a fusion).
When I submit the first proof, a client usually accepts a plan. Because it’s what a client said. Of cause, I apply what I thought, and industry standards. This process is design thinking. The current service which I provide is okay, I do not stop an improvement. I need to keep high-standard.
As I said, my design process is logical, not intuitive. How I think(consume, absorb) about the client’s briefing influence the output. That’s why I picked up the subject, Design Thinking.

What Is Design Thinking? An Overview
©AJ&Smart
– Design thinking = human-centered design
1. Empathize
– Who you are designing for?
– What their problems and needs are?
2. Define
– Organize information
3. Ideate
– Prioritize information
4. Prototype
– MVP
5. Test
– Gather feedback from real user(people) and back to define process

Keep learning & 1 mm better every day
I got used to watching YouTube for learning something new. Very early stage, video is quick and useful. Once reach a certain level, articles are better to deep into the subjects. If we paid for the online course, we can reach a high quality of education. We can learn throughout entire our life, no graduation.
I may lucky to find what I like. I did not academically learn design. I learned design on the job, over 10,000 hours of work. In my experience, people do not need to go to college to be a designer. It’s helpful to learn quickly, but if you like design, you will learn wherever/whenever you are. You can go beyond a lot of academic people even though it’s not a tangible competition. Do what you like!
