Story: Preparing for next year, 2019
In September 2018, I’ve started to make goals for next year, 2019.
This year, 2018, I’ve focused on my skill set. I went to Brainstation for UX in January – March. I joined Toastmasters in July. I bought an online course, digital marketing, at Udemy in November. Because I cannot give many values to local people when I meet up.
In 2019, I determined that I’m going to attend Meetup once a week. I will interact with local people actively. For that, I naturally figured out what I have to do during this year. I made a ToDo list below.
– Update a portfolio by the end of November. (done)
– An update case study at Behance by the end of December. (done)
– Utilize social media effectively. (LinkedIn/100, Instagram/500, Facebook/100)
– Learning digital making on Udemy.com by March
– Be familiar software, Keynote and iMovie.
– Finish the Competent Communication in Toastmasters by March 2019
Research: SMART goals
SMART is incorporated by the first letter of 5 words – specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-based. This method quite relates to Kyocera Philosophy which was advocated by Dr. Kazuo Inamori, founder of Kyocera Corporation.
Specific:
– Well defined and focused.
– The goal becomes a magnet, pulling you and your resources toward it.
Measurable:
– A goal without a measurable outcome is like a sports competition without a scoreboard.
– Concrete number (how many new clients, how many followers or profit) is essential.
Achievable:
– Dream big and aim for the stars, but keep one foot firmly based in reality.
– No one has ever built a billion dollar business overnight.
Realistic:
– Think about the current conditions and realities of the business climate.
– Business relates to the economy.
Time-Based:
– Set time-frame to accomplish a goal, within 1 year ideally.
– Don’t give yourself too much time, 3 year or more.
Goal Setting and How To Achieve Your Goals (4 mins)
@TheFutur
– Mins by mins goals < daily goals < monthly goals < big goals.
– One of the keys to achieving a goal is to see progress.
– In other words, scaffolding or chunking.
– Clear goals clear results, fuzzy goals fuzzy results.
– Set specific deadline.
A lot of people may know SMART Goals. However, a lot of people actually don’t implement it. Because it brings with a certain sacrifice. You cannot stay a comfortable zone. You have to change your habit. You cannot back to 9-5 work life and couch potato. “Success is determined by willpower.” Dr. Inamori clearly said that. I believe that I can get short-term satisfaction and take me to the next step in 2019.
Specific:
– Receive 3 new projects inquiries, mostly web (or startup branding), through the website in 2019
– Start E-commerce project by the end of June 2019
Measurable:
– Keep writing a blog(once 5 days) for SEO, promote traffic on Pinterest
– Upload mockup on Instagram, tell a story on Linkedin and Facebook
Achievable:
– Challenging, but it’s not impossible.
– Word of mouth is also important. Meet people more.
Realistic:
– Attend a meetup activity.
– Utilize social media advertising.
Time-Based:
– Within 2019. The measure (reflect) the process and achievement every three months.
– Write down the goals and set it on a wallpaper.
Recap: What are my goals in 2019?
1. Apply digital marketing study after Udemy finished (January 2019)
2. Meeting people actively. Expand network, 100 on Linkedin, 500 on Instagram.
3. Build a social proof.
