Story: Make an impact

As a graphic/web designer, we have to send proof a couple of times until a client’s approval. It’s a common process for graphic and web design projects. Especially, in the branding project, we have to make mockups that use a new brand identity, 2D and 3D. If you can submit an animation, that’s best. The top agency does that. It is quite persuasive. I cannot, but I am going to try it someday.

I am making a T-shirt for a client and I need a mockup. I use a template. I just didn’t remember how to make a mockup. Therefore, I gathered the videos.

1. Prepare high-resolution image, open at Photoshop
2. Create a new layer, re-name “Smart Object”
3. Check the dimensions approximately.
5. Make the shape by Marquee Tools (double size)
6. Fill in the color
7. Click layer which you made
8. Click Layer on top menu – Smart Objects – Convert to Smart Object
8. Opacity 25%. Then, adjust the shape to the object which you want to design
9. Opacity 25% to 100%
10. Double click thumbnail of the layer which you made. A new window shows up.
11. Paste your design
12. Back to the original file

You have to check the box, anti-alias(window top on photoshop) when you copy vector on illustrator and past on photoshop as a smart object.
Ref.01: Vectors come out blurry when copying from Illustrator and pasting into Photoshop.

You have to make a rectangle size at least double.
Not 89mm x 51mm
Double 178mm x 82mm
Triple 267mm x 153mm

I don’t come up with high-light on rid and cup. If I apply it, I would use a different way. The key point of the video is warp for a cup, curved surface. Actually, I don’t have many chances to make a cup mockup for a client.

 Work or hobby

I am working in the advertising industry for 10 years. I am using Photoshop for a while. I am not much graphic art savvy. In my client’s work, art does not require much and I am not an artist. If you master Photoshop, your presentation may be different.

There are many tools on Adobe CC. If you can enjoy using new tools, that’s the best situation. Learning for duty is not so interesting, but if you make T-shirts, or make a video as a hobby, you can improve a skill massively.

Not only Photoshop, but Adobe CC is a tool. How to use depends on you.
