Story: During COVID-19

Mid-March, 2020, Public Space was shut down. I was working at the Vancouver Public Library. I got back home and I tried to work. However, it was not efficient. I can easily lay down at home. There is no tense atmosphere, like a public space. Therefore, I am working in a co-working space.

Since then, I got used to the current situation. I sometimes okay to work at home. Therefore, I searched for a creative workspace. YouTube shows a workspace at home a lot. Pinterest and Instagram are good platforms for searching workspace. It’s a benefit of visual media.

I, as a graphic/web designer, naturally like to look at interior design. Overall, it was just fun.

It’s over 2M views. I understand that people are making workspace at home in the world.

The Futur family, Matthew’s workspace. Very organized. I can enjoy watching it, but I cannot follow it. I don’t have a stable home. I cannot have many gadgets. I don’t know when I have to move somewhere. I have to keep a minimum and simple as much as possible.

I didn’t know Matthew’s channel is popular as well as The Futur. No digital generation, but his dad made Matthew’s idea real. Cool dad.

I avoid decorating the above the desk. I think it’s because of my experience, earthquake. I can make a design on the computer, but to be honest, I am not good at composing IKEA furniture.

YouTube shows Matthew watched this video when I hover a mouse. It made me surprise. YouTube updates it.

This is a good content strategy. In Asia, the reforming house tv show is very popular, but it takes time. If he focuses on the workspace, he doesn’t need a long term. He can be able to get a sponsor as well. Great idea.

I want to organize a closet as well.

He created this video in March. This is a content strategy.

An adjustable desk hight is useful. Dual-arm looks cool. I prefer to use the same monitor if I layout them a parallel. I don’t think it’s only me, but my eye gets tired when I work in a dim room.

On YouTube, filmmaker or videographer frequently shows their workspace. Make sense. He said he prepares gears when he uses it. I understand that. The wood board with small holes looks flexible. We don’t want to make a hole in the rent room. It’s an alternative.

How to create a productive workspace

King of how to, YouTube shows really a lot of workspaces. The standing desk is nice, but looks heavy.

Many people customize IKEA’s furniture. It’s so popular. I am considering using desk mat. I want to achieve a dual monitor in the easiest way.

A chair is important for the workspace. I want to try a good chair, but when I move out, it will be troubled. If I have a good chair, I cannot dispose of it. Please care about the floor as well. A heavy chair damages it.

I chose 13 inches MacBook Pro refurbish. When I traveled with MacBook Pro, it is not good. MacBook Pro is too heavy. I cannot think about 15 inches MacBook Pro for daily work.

Many videos mention IKEA’s furniture. I like to walk in the IKEA store. It’s fun.

MUJI

Very familiar for Japanese. MUJI=無印良品 is a popular retailer. Now available in the northern US.

Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd., or Muji is a Japanese retail company which sells a wide variety of household and consumer goods. Muji’s design philosophy is minimalist, and it places an emphasis on recycling, reducing production and packaging waste, and a no-logo or “no-brand” policy. – Wikipedia

Conclusion: Update or dispose

I found many attractive workspaces. You may think about update your workspace.

As Japanese, I thought I would like to clean up first rather than buy something. I have enough stuff in which I make a life. The one thing I am lucky is that I have a big window in my current room. I really need natural sunlight. Anyway, if I spend money, I can update my workspace, but I will lose flexibility. I need to make a priority.

On September 20th, 2020, many people frustrate the current situation. Whether add or lose, please don’t stack stress much.
