Story: Value of drawing

I don’t have good illustration skills. Therefore, I really respect the illustrator. I sometimes work with illustrator and I was satisfied with her skills. However, I heard make a living as an illustrator is much tougher than as a graphic designer. Illustrator is an artist. If it fits the market or gets high demand, their sales is much easier. I understand it does not happen frequently.

Before the year 2000, the graphic design definitely required drawing skills. I could not become a graphic/web designer if I didn’t have Adobe Illustrator. It means these software takeovers a graphic designer/illustrator’s market. The world is really competitive.

Anyway, we can see many websites that use an illustration these days. I don’t have many chances to use it, but personally I like it. I want to always work with an illustrator, but it depends on the budget of a client and art direction.

Therefore, I look for an illustration which I can use for commercial.

On YouTube and blogs, many people mention Undraw. 1 or 2 illustrations are not easy to use for a project. Undraw has so many illustrations. In addition, you can apply a brand color only one click. No attribution requires. I searched for free illustration on Google. Many people mention unDraw.

If your project’s direction fits this illustration style, please try it. If you satisfy with unDraw, please tweet it. I am thinking of it for a landing page.

OUCH

The site mentions that OUCH provides a dribble style illustration. I felt that.

Free trial requires attribution. I have to subscribe to it if I use it for a client project. $13 for 25 illustrations. It’s not expensive for the project. 1 issue is that I don’t need an illustration for every project. OUCH stacks the availability if I didn’t use 25 illustrations per month but I may have to repeat the subscription and unsubscription. It bothers me.

$10/1 illustration is no big deal if it’s a project. Compared to OUCH, Glaze is a little costly. Free illustration requires attribution. I know many designers do not want to show it. There are 2 choices, use Glaze for a project or don’t.

Streamline Lab

The link connects to Dropbox. You can download it directly. Quite generous. I don’t know we have to mention attribution or just voluntary.

*The site says, “Free for Commercial and Personal Use. If you like our illustrations, please add a link back to this website to credit us. 🙏🏻”

The top right corner shows 3,000 illustrations on Streamline Lab. There are many free png illustrations, but you have to add attribution. The price looks a one-time payment. You can buy it.

It’s free, but you don’t have many choices compared to other sites. A designer may prefer to pay at OUCH or Glaze to accomplish your vision.

There are 2 buttons, Get the Library and Use with Blush. On the Blush(online tools), you can download medium size png once you signed up. I think it’s enough size for a website. The subscription unlocks all features.

I made 1 illustration for the cover of this blog and it was a fan. No face increases usability. Skin color takes care of multi nationalities. There are enough choices for hairstyles and clothes. Well done.

A little unique. Therefore, it’s limited to the usage of client work. Not so many human illustrations, but you can create a story freely, play the background, incorporate illustrations and apply brand color.

Isometric illustration

An isometric illustration is a style of drawing which uses a technique called isometric projection. With isometric projection, any three-dimensional object can be depicted on a flat two-dimensional surface. – freepic’s Blog

A very popular style in 2020. I can see isometric illustration on Pinterest and dribble a lot. I am looking for an online source for it. I want to collaborate with the creator, but I don’t know the price and how long it takes.

Conclusion: Power of resource

When I search for “illustration, vector, free etc”, I could find many blogs that recommend a lot of websites. It’s not helpful.

I moved on YouTube, no one recommends over 10 sites. I watched a few videos and I picked up potential sites. I would like to apply them my client work near future.
